"I want people to know that they have effective alternatives to drugs and surgery when they are unwell. Acupuncture is the original "do no harm" medicine, because it does not have the negative side effects that surgery and pharmaceuticals often entail." - Alicia Shulman, L.Ac., Licensed Acupuncturist specializing in Fertility & Women's Health.
Acupuncture for Women's Health at Village Wellness
Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to improve women's health. Acupuncture can help improve all kinds of hormonal imbalances, including low libido, irregular or painful menses, PMS, menopausal symptoms, stress-related adrenal insufficiency, PCOS, and even infertility.
Fertility Support with Acupuncture at Village Wellness
- Conception Assistance
Acupuncture works by removing stagnation in the body and balancing the endocrine and reproductive systems. In this way, it may help prevent a threatened miscarriage, and it may also correct the imbalances causing repeated miscarriages.
- Pregnancy Support
Acupuncture supports women through all stages of pregnancy and birth, from preconception to postpartum. More and more scientific studies are proving acupuncture's effectiveness, both on its own and in conjunction with Western medicine. For example, acupuncture can affordably enhance the effectiveness of IVF transfers, (which can cost up to $13,000) to such a degree that many IVF clinics are incorporating acupuncture into their procedures.
Acupuncture through the Pregnancy & Birth
We offer support throughout your pregnancy and birthing process. Acupuncture can help ease morning sickness, back pain, leg pain, swelling, and general discomfort. It is capable of turning a breach baby.* Acupuncture can support you through the birthing process as well. It can help quicken delayed labor, it can help mitigate labor pains via points in the ears, and it may assist a difficult labor by treating underlying qi and blood stagnation.
What is unique about Fertility & Women's Health at Village Wellness?
One word: Holistic. Our holistic approach means that you will ALWAYS receive a root-level, full mind/emotion/body/spirit balancing treatment in addition to addressing your main complaint. Our goal is to have you not only feeling better, but truly thriving!
What Is an Acupuncture Session Like?
During your initial 1.5 hour session, we do an in-depth interview and exam, including pulse diagnosis and tongue diagnosis. Here, you will have an opportunity to talk about your goals, and your acupuncturist will create an individualized treatment plan for you. You will have your first treatment during this session, which involves several tiny needles that are gently inserted into the skin. The needles stimulate the body to send fresh blood and energy (qi) to needed areas.
How many sessions will I need?
We have noticed for the best long term results, our average patients do best on the following schedule:
Initially you are seen weekly for about 6-8 sessions and then sessions will be spaced out to every other week, every three weeks, and then monthly. For IVF transfers, we do offer pre and post transfer sessions.
Acupuncture has healthy side effects:

* The effectiveness of turning a breech baby is not guaranteed, and largely depends on the baby's size and number of weeks until due.
