Lance's Late Summer Letter (Earth Element) - 2022

September 2022

Hi All,

Have you felt the gentle change in the air and sunlight as Summer shifts into Late Summer? The energy of Autumn has begun sneaking in through the cooler breezes and shorter days, but it’s not yet quite time for fall.

Late summer, the humid, sweet, warm season we’re in, is harvest time. The natural energy around us is full of abundance from all the summer growth and of course, everything is ready for harvest: seeds, nuts, fruits, and veggies enough to share with all.

The seasons also occur within us - so Late Summer is a great opportunity to reflect on the following questions: (If you are able, grab a piece of paper and jot down your answers.)

  • What are the fruits of my labor in my life?

  • What are the gifts abundant in my life?

  • How can I enjoy/celebrate these gifts even more?

  • How can I receive this abundance even more fully right now?

  • How can I share my abundance with my family/friends/community?

The feeling of abundance often has nothing to do with how much we actually have. The truth of this really came home to me during a visit to people who had nearly no possessions to their names.

When I was 18 I traveled to India, and during my visit, I stayed in an "untouchables” village. The untouchables are the lowest and poorest caste in the caste system.

The people there lived in huts with no electricity or running water. One night, the children of the village put on a show of song and dance for my friends and I. It was so beautiful and full of joy. Afterwards, they asked us if we could sing a song and do a dance for them. My friends and I looked at each other and felt like we had nothing comparable to share with them. In that moment I realized how rich they were, and how poor we "wealthy" Americans were.

My learning: The feeling of Abundance does not have to do with gaining more material wealth. It is a feeling of knowing the richness within and letting it overflow.

The feeling of scarcity amongst those with wealth is actually very common and it is something acupuncture and holistic medicine can actually address! Isn't that amazing?

If you are having a hard time feeling the abundance and gifts in your life, know that our village is here for you.

For our acupuncture patients who come in seasonally now is the perfect time to come in for your Late Summer session, and align with your true abundance. If you are new to acupuncture, it's a great time to start!
