What is Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

Is an evidence-based mindfulness meditation program. created in 1979 by John Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts. Though originally designed for stress management and chronic illness, it is also being used to help treat a variety of illnesses. Embedded within the context of Mind-Body and Participatory Medicine, the MBSR curriculum focuses on the experiential cultivation of both “formal” and “informal” mindfulness practice as a means of familiarizing oneself with awareness itself.

What is Mindfulness Meditation

While there has been significant attention on mental health because of the pandemic, Mindfulness Meditation has been used for centuries with its roots in Buddhism. It is being used widely by health and wellness professionals to treat depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, pain, insomnia, eating disorders, relationship problems, and other conditions.

About your Facilitator

Heather Bloodworth – Mindfulness Meditation, and Yoga Teacher

A National Trainer specializing in Mindfulness Meditation, and Movement. Heather holds her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin. After taking Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction at the University of Pennsylvania, she pursued taking advanced levels classes to teach Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) through the University of California – San Diego, and now teaches Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction at the Collegiate level. Heather also participated in the 2-year Mindfulness Meditation teacher certification program with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach through Sounds True, the Awareness Training Institute, and the University of California at Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center. Heather is a certified Yoga Teacher and offers private and Mindfulness Based Stress Management sessions.
