Gallbladder 34 – Yang Mound Spring – An Acupuncture Point to Restore Flexibility, Release Rigidity, & Reclaim Hope
Gallbladder 34 - Yang Ling Quan - Yang Mound Spring
A Point to Restore Flexibility, Release Rigidity, and See a Way Forward
Have you ever felt stuck in a loop where every option looks wrong?
Where no matter which way you turn, the path just doesn't feel right, and that inner tension starts to show up in your body, your decisions, maybe even your joints?
That tightness. That rigidity. That sense of nothing is flowing.
Meet Gallbladder 34, also called Yang Ling Quan — Yang Mound Spring.
It sits just below the outside of your knee, near the head of the fibula, like a little spring welling up from the side of a hill. And that image says everything about what this point does: it gets things moving again. Fluid. Flexible. Alive.
In the treatment room, I reach for GB 34 when someone feels rigid, not just physically (though it is the point for tight tendons, cramped legs, and stiff hips), but emotionally and spiritually rigid too. When someone's been grinding away at the same outlook, the same worry loop, the same sense that nothing is going to work out. When hope has gone a little dry.
This point is a spring. It wets the earth. It reminds Wood that it doesn't have to be brittle.
Lets welcome flexibility!
Spirit of the Acupuncture Points
Yanglingquan — GB 34 — "Yang Mound Spring" 陽陵泉
He-Sea Earth Point of the Gallbladder Channel Influential Point for all Sinews and Ligaments Lower Uniting Point of the Gallbladder
On a Physical Level, GB 34 can help with:
Tendon and ligament issues anywhere in the body - tightness, strain, spasm, or injury
Hip pain, sciatica, and weakness or stiffness of the lower extremities
Knee problems, especially pain and stiffness on the lateral side
Cramping, tendon Bi syndrome, and Wei (atrophy/flaccidity) syndromes
Foot troubles: coldness, numbness, edema of the ankles, or poor circulation to the feet
Digestive regulation - helpful for chronic constipation (Earth too tight) or loose stool (Earth too loose)
Pain in the hypochondriac region and diseases of the biliary tract
Note: This point is traditionally contraindicated after the 2nd month of pregnancy.
On a Mental/Emotional Level, it's beautiful for:
Releasing the frustration that comes from rigid thinking or decisions that feel like dead ends
Smoothing out the energy when everything looks awful and nothing seems right
Restoring coordination between mind and body - when you know what you want to do, but your body won't cooperate (or vice versa)
Dispersing negativity that has calcified into a fixed, hopeless outlook
Helping when someone feels like they've lost the thread between intention and action
And on a Spirit Level:
GB 34 gives the Wood Element its suppleness back. The Wood element needs to be both rooted and flexible - like a healthy tree that can bend in the wind without snapping. When the Gallbladder is Earth-deficient, that flexibility is lost. Decisions feel impossible. Coordination - between mind and body, left and right, up and down -begins to break down. GB 34 restores the spring.
It opens a way where there seemed to be no way. When the horizon looks dark and all roads look like they lead nowhere, this point gently illuminates a path forward. It doesn't force anything, it simply reminds the spirit that movement is possible.
It is the source of hope in the body. The spring doesn't gush, it wells up quietly, steadily, just enough to soften hard ground and let things grow again.
I find this point is especially supportive for those who are hard on themselves, perfectionistic, or chronically tense, people who push through life rather than flow through it.
Want to try it?
Find the point just below and in front of the head of the fibula - the small bony bump on the outer side of your knee. Press gently into the soft depression there.
Close your eyes. Take a slow breath.
Imagine a cool, clear spring welling up from the earth, softening the hard places, lubricating the stuck places, feeding the roots.
Let your tendons release.
Let your decisions soften.
Let there be a little more room.
You don't have to force your way through.
Just let it flow.
Hope You Feel Amazing!
Lots of Love, Lance
