Large Intestine 4 is the “FUCK IT!” point. It does an amazing job of letting go of what no longer serves on ANY level!

Spirit of the Acupuncture Points

Joining of the Valleys - LI 4 合谷

Yuan-Source point of the Large Intestine channel (Metal Element), Gao Wu Command point, Ma Dan-yang Heavenly Star point

Indications:

Physical Level

  • Headaches

  • Cold or Flu with Chills and/or fever

  • Redness or swelling of the eyes

  • Nosebleeds, Sneezing

  • Constipation

  • Throat, mouth, tooth, and jaw pain and related upsets (TMJ, lockjaw, tooth decay, facial paralysis, etc)

  • Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)

  • Allergies: Sinusitis, Hay fever, etc.

  • Promotes labor, eases childbirth (point forbidden to use during pregnancy)

Emotional/Mental

  • Grief

  • Mental Tension

And….Cue the song from Frozen… this is the ultimate “let it go” point. LI 4 empowers us to let go of that which no longer serves in all aspects of being

Location:

On the dorsum of the hand, between the first and second metacarpal bones, at the midpoint of the second metacarpal bone and close to its radial border. Translation: in the middle of the fleshy pad that joins the thumb and index finger on the top of the hand. (point will likely be tender to touch)

How to Stimulate:

You can stimulate this point by gently massaging it directly with your thumb for 30 seconds or until you are inspired to take a deep breath.
