Stomach 25 – Heavenly Pivot – An Acupuncture Point to Recenter in the Midst of Upheaval

Have you ever felt like the ground beneath your feet was shifting? Like the world is spinning just a little faster than you can keep up with?

Lately, many of us are feeling unsteady — like the center isn’t holding. The news, the socio-political climate, the everything. It’s all a lot. And when the outside world feels uncertain, we need a strong inner center more than ever.

That’s where the acupuncture point Stomach 25, Tianshu, comes in — “Heavenly Pivot.”

This point sits right in the middle of our belly— on either side of the navel — right where our physical and emotional digestion happens. It’s the pivot point between above and below, between mind and body, between what we consume and what we hold onto.

In the treatment room, I often turn to this point when someone is feeling overwhelmed, scattered, or emotionally overloaded — when life is moving too fast and nothing feels solid. Sometimes it shows up as anxiety, worry, or a racing mind. Other times, it's more of a gut feeling — a heaviness in the belly, a sense that they just can't digest what’s happening in their life.

Stomach 25 helps bring everything back to the center.
To the core.
To a place where breath flows again, and where the body remembers what it feels like to be steady, present, and held. It offers a pause — a moment to regroup, to reconnect with the self, and to find balance amidst the noise.

Heavenly Pivot reminds us that we are the axis, the still point, even when the world spins wildly around us.

Front-Mu (Alarm) Point of the Large Intestine

Physical Level Indications

  • Regulates digestion — supports relief from constipation, diarrhea, bloating, IBS, and abdominal pain

  • Aids in menstrual regulation and clearing heat and stagnation

  • Helps the body process what it no longer needs — physically and energetically

Emotional / Mental Indications

  • Stabilizes mood swings and emotional “whiplash”

  • Supports nervous system regulation during overwhelm or transitions

  • Helps release emotional “constipation” — worry, fear, confusion, overthinking

  • Anchors you when life feels like too many tabs open at once

Spirit Level Indications

  • A dynamic center. ST 25 empowers us to move freely in any direction — not by force, but from a steady core.

  • Heaven’s compass. Tianshu is also the name of the central star of the Big Dipper, the celestial residence of the shen — spirits that preside over one’s destiny. Like that guiding star, this point reconnects us to our own inner navigation system.

  • The Earth’s axis. As a point on the Stomach channel — the Earth element — it reflects the central pivot around which the seasons and the Dao revolve. It reminds us that even in times of change, we are rooted in something ancient, wise, and enduring.

How to Activate ST 25:

Find the point: 2 cun (about two thumb widths) out from your belly button, one on each side.

Sit quietly. Gently place your fingers on the points and breathe. Apply soft, steady pressure in slow circles, or just rest your hands there with intention.

As you do, imagine your body aligning with the cosmos. The Big Dipper turns overhead. The winds of life swirl around you. But you — you are the pivot. You are the center.

You are home.

Feel Amazing!
Love, Lance
