★ Mindfulness for Everyday Life

Does life ever seem to spiral out of control and land you in a state of anxiety and panic, or leave you feeling overwhelmed? This is a program for everyday people who are trying to find balance and rest in the midst of “everyday chaos”. Through an integration of holistic therapy, group mindfulness and meditation, yoga and relaxation, we will learn how to reduce stress, create balance in our work and home lives, and live (mind)FULLY.

Dates: January 21st - March 11th 2014

  • 8 weekly mindfulness group sessions (Tuesday evenings, 6-7:30 pm)  
  • 2 (30 minute) individual holistic psychotherapy sessions

Yoga for Insomnia

Insomnia is an incredibly frustrating ailment that's often made worse by the fact that those who suffer from it don't truly understand what's causing it or know what (exactly) they can do to move beyond it.  
This three hour workshop will include:
-Restorative yoga sequence
-Lecture/discussion on the causes of insomnia as well as the preventative and curative measures we can take to keep ourselves sleeping soundly
-Yoga Nidra, a practice specifically designed to support sleep 

Everyone (even the "non-flexible") are welcome and all who attend will leave with access to audio recordings of the Yoga Nidra practice and the restorative sequence.

Sacred Cosmic Sound Vibration Healing Session

Join Us to celebrate the Full MOON with this special Kundalini Yoga & Meditation Class. The first half of the class is dedicated to opening, stretching, expanding and raising our energy through Kundalini Yoga. During the second half of the class laying in Shivasna (corpse pose) or sitting in meditation, you will bliss out and touch the infinite as you bathe in the AMAZING universal vibrations of the GONG!!! Let's Talk Cleanse: A Facilitated Conversation 
with Antanas Vainius, BodyMind Nourishment Coach

Antanas Vainius, our BodyMind Nourishment Coach and resident food magician, will lead two conversations about cleansing and detoxification - on Thursday, January 9th from 6:30-8:00 pm and Saturday, January 25th from 2-4 pm.  

This is brainstorming session to support your new years' resolutions and inspire a healthier and more sustainable way of eating and doing self-care. The goal is to help you understand how to create and succeed at YOUR perfect cleanse; and after your cleanse, discover how to nourish yourself in a delicious and sustainable way.  As a food magician, Antanas will help you discover how to reconnect pleasure with nutrition. In fact, food that is not both enjoyable and nutritious is a dead end - just like ALL diets.  Only by bringing nutrition and pleasure back together do we have a chance to take back our sanity and power and find our way back to our Center. 

You will learn about all the necessary tools to cleanse successfully and shortcuts that make it easy.  Also we will explore the possibility of doing a cleanse together as a community - incorporating the many resources of WFW to support us to go deeper and have longer lasting benefits.

Self Care for the Holidays

Are you feeling a bit overwhelmed by all of the holiday hoopla?  

While some of us are preparing for days filled with extended family and busyness… others of us are wondering how we will fill our time with a lack of family and friends to share the holidays with.  Either way, emotions are abundant this time of year and it can be difficult to take good care of ourselves in the midst of all the fanfare. 

Here are a few self-care tips for the holidays:  

1. Make a plan

When our stress and anxiety levels are soaring, it is difficult to remember how to soothe ourselves, get grounded, and re-group.  And it is especially challenging at holiday time when our senses are over stimulated with noise, lights, and people.  

So, before the company arrives and you are in the throws of activity (or in a slump of lonely melancholy), take a few minutes and make a plan.  Write down on a note card or small slip of paper five things that you can do to take good care of yourself when you are feeling stressed/anxious/overwhelmed.  

Need some ideas?  You might: take a walk; make a cup of tea; enjoy ten deep breaths.  Be sure and write down one thing that involves another person, i.e.: Call a friend.   

When things get difficult, pull out your plan and offer yourself a few moments of self-love.  

2. Take breaks

Constant hustle and bustle will tax the strongest of nerves so be sure and take breaks when you need them.  A five-minute mini-retreat to your bedroom/the bathroom/ the backyard, ect. isn’t too noticeable to everyone else and will give you the time and space you need to breathe and re-group.   Don’t worry, the holiday will still be there when you get back.  (If that sounds terrible, gently reminder yourself that the holiday hoopla will be over for good in a just a couple of short weeks.  This doesn’t last forever and your life will soon get back to normal.) 

3. Nourish yourself

Holidays tend to drastically change our routine (and put pressure on us to be jolly about it) so it is important to nourish your body throughout the winter festivities.  While you may be surrounded by delectable pies and pastries, remember to supplement the sweets with good food that is grounding and that will balance out the sugar high.  Let your body be your ally – take care of it so that it will help take care of the rest of you, particularly your mind and emotions.   

4. Reach out for support

It doesn’t always work to vent about our family/friends to our family/friends.  You might consider reaching out to a therapist for support.  Gift yourself the time and space to connect with a professional who will listen non-judgmentally, confidentially, and walk with you through the holiday season and into the New Year.  

Or, consider scheduling a massage, acupuncture session, or taking a yoga class.  You might set up a time to have tea with a friend.  You know yourself best… take a moment and consider who you might reach out to for support and then make it happen.

Community Yoga and Meditation

Community Yoga: A yoga class where people talk to each other

We all need our solitude, and yoga and meditation are both great portals into conscious, healing “alone time”.  Group yoga classes offer the added benefit of communal sacred solitude in which students energetically connect through shared movement and relaxation.
Often though, we need more than shared quietness – we need to talk and be heard.  We need to vocalize our intentions and discuss the challenges of mindful living with others who are on similar journeys.  It is helpful to have someone hold us accountable for our personal / spiritual goals and ask us how we are doing along the way. 
Our Thursday evening community yoga and meditation class at Wayne Family Wellness, offers time and space for both quite contemplation and facilitated group discussion.  Each class begins with a teaching and time for sharing, followed by movement, relaxation, and meditation.  The evening concludes with a group check-in and individual intention setting. 
The class is great for students with all levels of experience.  Depending on the needs of the class, the yoga postures range from gentle stretching to semi-vigorous sequences to longer held yin poses.
